Hi, I'm Mica. Welcome to Balsamroot Wellness, a space to support and cultivate well-being.
I chose the name Balsamroot Wellness in honor of the resilient Arrowleaf Balsamroot flowers that grow in the Western region of North America. These flowers thrive in the mountains of Northern Utah, where I'm from, and also paint the hillsides of Eastern Washington, where I currently reside. Their radiant, yellow flowers signify the start of a new season with blooms that last from March to June. They thrive from open prairies to rugged hillsides. These plants provide habitats and food for animals, prevent erosion with their deep taproots, and offer powerful medicine from their seeds, roots and leaves. They can live for decades and grow taproots over 8 feet long. These deep taproots ensure survival in harsh conditions. This powerful plant symbolizes the depth of tending to our own wellness so that we can be resilient and gentle, honoring our healing paths. It takes time to create deep rooted wellness. It is a process that is not always linear but is worth the time and energy needed to survive and thrive. My goal is to help others nurture deep-rooted wellness in their own lives by using food as medicine and creating intentional habits and purpose filled pursuits.
I've been drawn to the omnipotent healing forces of nature since my early teenage years when I began turning to plant medicine for home remedies. Experiencing the loss of my maternal grandmother and dealing with my own chronic pain were powerful forces that shaped my own personal journey into wellness and healing. I have experienced debilitating menstrual cycles for 15 years. In January of 2022, I finally had a procedure to diagnose and remove endometriosis. Endometriosis is an inflammatory disease that causes chronic pain from growths throughout the body. These growths are made of cells, similar to the ones that make up the uterine lining, and respond to hormones in the same manner. The pain from this condition hindered my spirit for years, at times controlling my ability to fully participate in my life. While surgery was a life changing event and brought insight and some relief, I realized my physical symptoms were tied to a much deeper relationship of mind-body wellbeing. Lifestyle medicine has been my greatest tool since surgery is not always a long-term solution. I have devoted my knowledge of integrative medicine to understanding the relationship of inflammation and chronic pain to emotional and mental wellness in my life. By nurturing my body with whole foods, meaningful hobbies, community involvement, and a support system of family, friends, and healthcare providers, I have created a synergistic foundation that nurtures all aspects of my being. I still deal with pain on occasion, but it no longer has the hold on my life that it once did. I am able to dance in the energy of each moment and give myself space to feel all of it. I believe a balanced approach to wellness is vital to living a vibrant life. I've found that balance to create vibrance in my own life, and now my calling is to help others create it for themselves.
I have experience as a clinical health coach in functional medicine clinics, focusing on lifestyle education and chronic pain management. I have worked with hundreds of people on their healing paths and am excited to offer my services in a way that aligns with my own journey of healing.
